UNLOCKING RESOURCES AND SOLIDARITY WITH A PHILANTHROPY
THAT MEETS THE MOMENT
ABOUT
We live in a new era of crisis and opportunity, one in which philanthropic resources can play a transformational role in moving us towards a more just, equitable and sustainable future.
Yet our blueprints for philanthropy fall short of transformation.
New Era Strategies partners with funders, donors, trustees and institutions to build the bridge between what we've inherited and who we are becoming, so that our philanthropic resources can build a future of widespread flourishing. I partner with leaders and organizations that are looking to take the next step in evolving their practice, strategy and philanthropic approach to building durable systemic change.

MY APPROACH
I advise and accompany donors, trustees, and funding institutions building the new era of philanthropy this moment requires.
I bring the grounded expertise of a practitioner: as a longtime Executive Director of a private foundation advancing social justice, as the builder and leader of a collaborative c3/c4 fund, as a social justice lawyer, and as the author of A New Era of Philanthropy.
But expertise is only one ingredient in the alchemy. I also bring joy, courage, creativity, connection, and a deeply relational approach that treats change as something we create and embody together.

DONOR ADVISING / PHILANTHROPIC ADVERTISING
Every donor's path into giving is unique and is shaped by where their wealth came from, values they inherited or are choosing, and the questions they're carrying about power, legacy and impact. I partner with donors and institutions to turn that complexity into clarity: naming values, defining focus areas, and building the practices and structures that embed values into organizational action, making your philanthropy purposeful. Drawing on the frameworks in A New Era of Philanthropy, this work moves beyond transactional philanthropy toward a philanthropy that is transformational. Together we lean into the alchemy of moving capital, with the ever-evolving mix of relationships, resources, imagination, trust and solidarity. Whether working with a new donor to build a giving practice from scratch or an institution navigating change and transition, the goal is the same: a philanthropy that is clear, grounded, in right-relationship with communities, and in service of a more just future.
REIMAGINING GOVERNANCE FOR A NEW ERA
"It's always felt like something isn't quite right about how we do this."
I’ve heard this phrase countless times from trustees reflecting on the governance norms they have inherited.
While many organizations are leaning into a transformational and justice-oriented approach to philanthropy, our approach to governance hasn't kept up. I work with boards and trustees to reframe fiduciary duty, develop values-based approaches to spending, revisit the identities we bring to governance, and evolve philanthropic governance to be more responsive, proximate, transparent, and accountable, so that philanthropy can meet this moment.
This work takes many forms, including:
Board and trustee presentations and workshops
Culture and structure change work for institutions in transition
Values and mission-aligned spending approaches
Courageous Governing for a New Era of Philanthropy, an immersive retreat for a cohort of trustees ready to lean into a more transformational approach to governance.
COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE - EVOLVING PHILANTHROPY TOGETHER
Many efforts to transform philanthropy focus on changing one organization at a time; yet, in these urgent times, philanthropy’s evolution can be a collective project. I partner with organizations to support collective formations of funders who want to build a new era of philanthropy. In the US South, I am proud to partner with MDC to convene a Community of Practice that brings together philanthropic leaders from across North Carolina to collectively build a new era of philanthropy, drawing on A New Era of Philanthropy as curriculum alongside somatic practice to move from intellectual understanding to embodied change. Together we are exploring how this network can be a container for sector-wide change, and how investing in leaders, inner work, shared wisdom, experimentation, and co-creation, can shift philanthropic purpose and practice across a region. With Humanity United and WINGS Philanthropy, I am launching an international community of practice of philanthropic leaders committed to building the new era of philanthropy. A community of practice for trustees is in the dreaming phase, to be launched in the world in 2027.
COACHING FOR LEADERS (CEOs, TRUSTEES, and C-SUITE)
I offer a limited number of confidential one-on-one coaching packages to help leaders lead well in these complex and fraught times. Leadership today requires us to balance holding the big picture of the more just future we seek to build with the day-to-day work of navigating risk, relationships and change.
Whether you're a first time CEO, a next-gen or new donor, or a trustee grappling with the complexities of governing, I welcome the opportunity to support, advise and accompany you.
SPEAKING: FIRESIDE CHATS, KEYNOTES AND WORKSHOPS
Dimple brings the same storytelling instinct that shaped her book, the same clarity she offers boards and donors in the room, and the same warmth she brings to every conversation, to the stage. She has delivered keynotes and spoken on plenary stages at large philanthropic gatherings including Skoll World Forum, the National Center for Family Philanthropy, WINGS Forum, and GEO, and has shared provocative insights at community foundation gatherings and at foundation staff and board retreats.
In a moment when so much in philanthropy is frozen, people come away from Dimple's talks unfrozen, unstuck, and inspired to move resources more abundantly and in solidarity with communities.
Topics she speaks on:
Philanthropy's role and greatest impact in times of polycrisis
Reimagining governance, including foundation spending
Who we need to be to meet this moment
Philanthropy’s role in fighting for a multi-racial democracy
Trust-based philanthropy and how funders can embed justice values in their philanthropic purpose and practice.
Audiences leave with a new story to tell, a fresh way of seeing the work, and a clear next step, ready to move.
